Reflections on my journey as an Artist from my first photographs in high school at 15 to the pieces I finished a few weeks ago at 41.

I found 2 rolls of 35mm film recently. Nudes I shot and developed at 19 years old. I wasn’t brave enough to show them to anyone. I was supposed to be a pure young Virgin, not a curious Artist exploring her sexuality. I followed the rules, I made promises and I kept them. They kept me too. Bride at 20. My daughter’s first home at 28. Broken at 32.

35mm film exposed in 2004 and contact printed in 2026, 24” x 40”, silver gelatin prints.

Two 20” x 16” contact sheets. Contact sheets are made by pressing sleeved negatives directly against photographic paper with a piece of glass. Photographers use them to analyze their exposures and choose negatives they want to enlarge.

When making this print in the darkroom I discovered how overexposed the negatives were. I had shot the previous roll and forgot to adjust my camera’s settings after loading the new one. A common newbie mistake and a sign I was either flustered shooting my nudes or so focused I just wanted to keep going.

A photogram of my partially redacted and dissected marriage license. Photograms are also contact prints. I carefully placed the sliced open paper on top of photographic paper and pressed it under a piece of glass. Since the marriage license was a positive image to start, it flipped to a negative image when printed.
